In the world of celebrity red carpets, unless you’re wearing something completely customized or made-to-order from a designer, there’s always a chance someone may end up wearing an identical dress. It could be considered a fashion disaster, but most of the time, it just evolves into the world questioning "who wore it best?"

But who would have thought that Kate Middleton and Paris Hilton would be style twins? The American socialite definitely has her own girly aesthetic, made popular during the early 2000s when she starred on The Simple Life with Nicole Richie. Kate Middleton, the Duchess of Cambridge, has become well-known for her love of midi-length shift dresses, skinny jeans, and blazers from accessible high-street brands like Topshop and Zara. Translation: They have polar opposite styles. Yet, in a shocking turn of events, both women recently wore the exact same dress on the red carpet.

At the premiere of A Street Cat Named Bob, the Duchess opted for a floor-length white lace gown by Self Portrait—a British label known for its feminine lace dresses. She styled it with a glittering red poppy brooch, matching burgundy heels by Gianvito Rossi, and a similarly hued clutch by Mulberry.

How Kate Middleton became the “most influential woman” in fashion:

Hilton wore the Self Portrait dress a week earlier at the AmFar Inspiration Gala—though styled with a bit of Hollywood glitz in mind. The socialite opted for diamond accessories, white heels, blinged-out nails, and a glittering headband. The white gown is kind of like a blank canvas—Hilton’s sparkly accessories helped her stand out among the sea of celebs, while Middleton's styling touches stayed true to her own classic aesthetic.

Considering Kendall Jenner recently wore a dress inspired by Hilton’s twenty-first birthday outfit at her own birthday party in Los Angeles, twinning may be the next big trend rather than a major fashion faux pas. (During NYFW earlier this fall, labels such as Monse and Rebecca Minkoff even experimented with models wearing matching looks.) Either that, or Hilton is making a comeback as the next style icon.
