In today’s TV news roundup, “RuPaul’s Drag Race” winner Bianca Del Rio lands her own Logo special, Melanie Field and more join “Heathers” TV spin-off, and more.

DEVELOPMENT

“RuPaul’s Drag Race” Season 6 winner Bianca Del Rio will star in two original half-hour comedy specials entitled “Not Today Bianca,” following the famed drag queen as she takes on Hollywood.  Guest stars will include “Drag Race” host RuPaul, Kristen Johnston (“The Exes”), Tori Spelling (“90210”) and more. “Not Today Bianca” is set to debut on Logo this December.

CASTING

TV Land announced further casting for the upcoming TV adaptation of the 1988 cult classic “Heathers.” Melanie Field has been cast to play Heather Chandler, with Brendan Scannell as Heather Duke and Jasmine Mathews as Heather McNamara. Field, Scannel and Mathews join Grace Victoria Fox as Veronica Sawyer and James Scully as JD. The script is written by Jason Micallef (“Butter”) and is set to be directed by Leslye Headland (“Bachelorette”), with Tom Rosenberg and Gary Lucchesi serving as executive producers for Lakeshore Entertainment.

DATES

Mommy Dead and Dearest,” the true crime story about the murder of Dee Dee Blanchard and her daughter Gypsy Rose, will debut on HBO in March 2017. Director Erin Lee Carr (HBO’s “Thought Crimes: The Case of the Cannibal Cop”) explores a crime in the age of social media in the upcoming documentary. The project is produced by Andrew Rossi, with co-producers Alison Byrne and Andrew Coffman.

DEALS

Telemundo has extended its multi-year contract with journalist María Celeste Arrarás as host and editorial director of its afternoon news program, “Al Rojo Vivo.” Arrarás had left Telemundo in 1994 to work on “Primer Impacto” on Univision, and rejoined Telemundo as anchor of “Al Rojo Vivo” in 2002.  Since 2013, she has also co-anchored Telemundo’s daily newscast, “Noticiero Telemundo.”

RENEWALS

Freeform has picked up the sitcom “Young & Hungry for a fifth season, set to premiere in 2017. The series stars Emily Osment as a young food blogger hired as the personal chef for a wealthy entrepreneur, along Jonathan Sadowski, Aimee Carrero, Kym Whitley and Rex Lee. “Young & Hungry” is produced by David Holden, Ashley Tisdale, Jessica Rhoades, Caryn Lucas, and Eric Tannenbaum and Kim Tannenbaum in association with CBS Television Studios.
