Whether you've bought multiple tubes of mascara or have already invested in pricey eyelash extensions, we've all tried to make our lashes Kardashian-level long at one point or another. It turns out that the secret to lengthy lashes isn't always found in your local drugstore or salon, but rather in your very own bathroom. YouTube beauty vlogger and founder of Huda Beauty Huda Kattan, recently posted a video in which she uses cotton balls to create more voluminous lashes, and surprisingly enough, it truly seems to work!

The two-and-a-half minute tutorial begins with Kattan explaining the three necessary tools for her look: mascara, a spoolie, and a cotton ball. To start, she applies a few coats of her favorite mascara to give lashes an initial boost and to create a wet base for the cotton to stick to. Then, she uses a spoolie (an eyebrow brush can work just as well for this step) to pull out small bits of cotton and comb it along the tips of her lashes. Before moving on to the next eye, Kattan recommends coating the cotton-tipped lashes with another swipe of mascara in order to set the cotton and prevent any fallout.

You can even repeat the process on the same eye a few times until you reach the length and thickness you desire, just make sure the cotton has been pulled apart into soft, loose pieces beforehand so that the fibers can stick to your lashes more easily.

The video already has close to 100,000 views, and it's rising popularity should come as no surprise since cotton fibers are much like the those found in popular mascaras like Physician's Formula Eye Booster Instant Lash Extension Kit, among others. And after seeing her end result, the DIY cotton ball trick clearly works just as well.

Before you head off to try your new at-home extensions technique, though, a word to contact-lens wearers: Do not place the cotton too close to the lash line, otherwise fibers may fall onto your lens and be a huge pain in the neck to clear out. Otherwise, have no fear and lengthen those lashes, ladies!
