The Soquel and St. Francis high school girls tennis teams needed more than an afternoon to complete their Santa Cruz Coast Athletic League battle, the regular-season finale for both teams.
The match was called on account of darkness Thursday and when it wrapped up Friday, host Soquel had earned a 4-3 win and a share of third place in the league with the Sharks.
Alena Thomas Pullen and Barbara Sanford clinched the team win at No. 3 doubles with their 6-2, 4-6, 6-4 victory over Rayuli Galster and Emily Wells. The Knights’ No. 2 doubles team, on the other hand, was the first to finish with a 6-2, 6-1 win over Rachael Boxwell and Avery Groghan. The Knights swept doubles play, while St. Francis took three of four singles wins, headlined by Gabi Gutierrez’s 6-4, 6-2 win over Ireland Conti at No. 2.
