The Florida Gators basketball team held an intra-squad scrimmage that was open to media on Friday. Gator Country brings an update from the scrimmage here, including some notes and quotes from head coach Mike White.
Scrimmage Notes
- Devin Robinson had a great day offensively, finished with 23 points and was 4-for-4 from three.
- Chris Chiozza and Kasey Hill finished behind Robinson with 17 and 13 points.
- KeVaughn Allen and John Egbunu both had quiet days and did not get many opportunities.
- Keith Stone led the team in rebounds with 12.
- The Gators started off hot from beyond the arc with seven three-pointers made in the first eight-minute period of the scrimmage.
- Free-throws were a point of focus throughout the scrimmage. White had guys shoot free-throws on nearly every foul.
- Florida shot 62 percent from the foul line.
- The team struggled with getting the ball to the interior in the scrimmage.
- Defense made improvements in the scrimmage and had and impressive day, with 13 steals and five blocked shots.
White Post-Scrimmage
- White thought the Gators weren’t as crisp offensively as they were in their first scrimmage and didn’t get into a good enough rhythm.
- Florida implemented the press into their game at yesterday’s practice. He said he was impressed with how the team handled it with it only being in around 27 hours.
- White on Robinson: “He’s shooting the ball well. He had a very good day.”
- White said Robinson is as strong as he’s been since coming off of the injury.
- With both point guards Chiozza and Hill playing very well in the scrimmage, White said he looks to play both of them at the same time in certain situations. “If they’re both playing really well, of course, we’re gonna try to put the best five on the floor.”
- “Not that we’re prolific offensively, but I’d like to think we’re gonna be a little bit better than last year,” said White.
