Sjea Anderson had 18 kills and nine digs as the Monte Vista Christian School girls volleyball team defeated host Everett Alvarez 25-18, 25-14, 25-13 in Monterey Bay League Gabilan Division play on Thursday night.

The victory allowed the Mustangs (26-4, 8-2) to keep pace with San Benito (26-4, 10-1), which defeated Salinas on Thursday to earn a share of the MBL-G championship.

MVC will visit San Benito on Tuesday at 6:30 p.m.

Shelby Anderson added nine digs, six aces and five kills for the Mustangs, while Mattea Romo had 24 assists, eight kills and two aces.

At Soquel 3, Scotts Valley 0 >> Sam Boyle paced the Falcons in a losing effort with 14 kills as Soquel won in straight sets, 25-18, 25-23, 25-14, in Santa Cruz Coast Athletic League play.

Emma Turner contributed four aces for Scotts Valley (17-8, 8-6).

Soquel finishes league play with a 16-8, 12-2 record.

The SCCAL playoffs begin Monday at 6:30 p.m.

At Aptos 3, Mount Madonna 1 >> Sisters Ari and Jillian Rodriguez led the Aptos offense with 10 and eight kills, respectively, and the Mariners won 25-14, 25-19, 23-25, 25-23 to finish SCCAL regular-season play undefeated.

Elise Coash, Maddie Barrios, and Maddi Smith combined for 38 digs on defense for Aptos (19-7, 14-0), which will be at the Milpitas Spikefest II on Saturday.

Paola Jacobs led the Hawks (7-15, 2-12) with 21 kills and Mara Peruzzi ended up with 17 kills and 16 digs.

At Harbor 3, Santa Cruz 0 >> Senior Jordyn Skucius led Harbor with 12 kills, nine digs and two aces, leading the Pirates to at least a third-place tie in SCCAL play, during senior day at Harbor.

Seniors Dani Koch had nine kills, eight digs and four aces for Harbor (11-6, 9-5), while Kayla Kienholz had 13 digs and two aces.

The Cardinals finish with a record of 6-16, 6-8.

Harbor will face Pioneer Saturday at 8 a.m. at Spikefest II at Independence High.

PCS 3, at Greenfield 1 >> Outside hitters Natalie Kies and Aliana Abrams led the way on offense as the Pumas earned a 25-22, 25-15, 22-25, 25-21 win in Mission Trail Athletic League Coastal Division action.

The Pumas (8-3, 7-3) host Oakwood on Monday at 5:30 p.m.

D-League basketball

Warriors add to coaching staff >> The Santa Cruz Warriors announced the hiring of assistant coaches Ross McMains and Kelly Peters to head coach Casey Hill’s staff.

McMains spent last season as the head coach of the Taranaki Mountain Airs in New Zealand’s top professional basketball league and as an assistant coach of the New Zealand Men’s National Team. His coaching résumé also features stops in Italy, France, Latvia and China.

Peters joins the Santa Cruz Warriors after spending the previous two years as an advance scout for Golden State. Prior to joining the Warriors, Peters spent 14 years at his alma mater as an assistant coach at Torrey Pines High School in San Diego beginning in 2001, where he helped guide the school’s basketball team to 10 league titles and two CIF Section titles.

“We are really lucky to have such an experienced and dynamic staff to begin this upcoming season,” Hill said in a statement.

In addition to McMains and Peters, the Warriors added head athletic trainer Long Lam and basketball operations manager Jacob Rubin to the staff.

Girls tennis

St. Francis 3, Soquel 3 >> The Sharks and Knights were tied in their SCCAL match when darkness set in.

The two teams will complete the match Friday at 3:30 p.m., at Soquel High.

The only remaining match is at No. 3 doubles between St. Francis’ Emily Wells and Kayli Galster, and Soquel’s Alena Thomas-Pullen and Barbara Sanford. The match is tied entering the third set.

Soquel’s Elizabeth Clayton won 6-4, 6-4 at No. 3 singles.

Christopher 4, at MVC 3 >> Cloria Yao, Sierra Myer and Della Zhou won their MBL-G singles matches in straight sets to lead the Mustangs in the league loss.

Yao beat Nietnimol Khay 6-0, 6-1 in the No. 2 spot.

MVC plays at Salinas on Tuesday at 3:30 p.m.

At Santa Cruz 4, Scotts Valley 1 >> No. 3 singles Stella Davidsdottir won the deciding match for Santa Cruz in a SCCAL match.

With the win, the Cardinals lock up second place in league.

Girls cross country

Stout sets new record on P.G. course >> Pacific Collegiate School’s Alex Stout set a new course record at the MTAL Center Meet. Stout completed Pacific Grove High’s 3.1-mile course in 18 minutes, 22 seconds.

Pacific Grove (53 points) won the 12-team race and was followed by Carmel (55), PCS (103), Soledad (113) and Greenfield (131).

PCS’s Erika Pistor (20:34) took second. Pacific Grove’s Christina Hashimoto (20:42) was third and followed by Carmel’s Pascale Montgomery (20:47) and Pacific Grove’s Anna Stefanou (20:49).

Evelin Meza (20:50) took sixth to lead Greenfield and Iris Ruis (22:16) took 13th to pace Soledad.

Chloe Ortiz (25:19) took 43rd to lead Kirby.

Boys cross country

Munoz wins MTAL Center Meet >> PCS’s Taegan Dunton (18:51) took 34th at the MTAL Center Meet on Pacific Grove High’s 3.1-mile course, helping the Mustangs take third.

Greenfield (50 points) won the 12-team race, and was followed by Pacific Grove (73), King City (80), Carmel (88) and York (113). PCS (269) took 11th and Kirby had an incomplete team.

King City’s Roman Munoz (16:42) took first place and was followed by Carmel’s Emerson Hardy (16:44), Pacific Grove’s Henry Loh (16:51) and Jake Alt (16:52) and King City’s Jesus Avalos (17:00).

Elijah Stone (20:34) took 68th to lead Kirby.

Girls golf

Aptos 128, SLV 151 >> Medalist Amanda Fort shot a 7-over 28 at Boulder Creek Golf and Country Club, leading Aptos to a SCCAL victory.

Megan Eldredge shot a 31 for the Mariners, while Sierra Mirande shot a 33 for the low score for SLV.

Gianna Marinshaw finished with a 34 for Aptos.

Harbor 149, Scotts Valley 169 >> Medalist Roselyn Marc shot a 9-over 32 for Harbor at DeLaveaga Golf Course in a SCCAL match.

Natalie Mitchell shot the low score for Scotts Valley (1-7) finishing with a 34.

Shooting a 39 was Olivia Hays, Lucy Meza and Zylah Specht for Harbor (4-4) and Taylor Stevenson for Scotts Valley.

Santa Cruz 142, Harbor 166 >> Sigi Allen recorded a 32 to earn medalist honors to lead Santa Cruz past Harbor in SCCAL play at DeLaveaga Golf Course on Tuesday.

Kayla Karst (33) , Auriela Turzo (36) and Haley Johnson 41) also scored for the Cardinals (5-2).

Roselyn Marc (40), Ellis Conover (41), Olivia Hays (42) and Lucy Meza (43) scored for Harbor (3-4).
