Sam Lowes (Federal Oil Gresini Moto2) was P4, ahead of home hero Takaaki Nakagami (Idemitsu Honda Team Asia) and reigning Champion Johann Zarco (Ajo Motorsport). Sandro Cortese (Dynavolt Intact GP) ended the session in seventh, with Julian Simon (QMMF Racing Team), Lorenzo Baldassari (Forward Racing) and Simon Corsi (Speed Up Racing) completing the top ten.
