Arul, repairs to 1MDB must start with the truth

YOURSAY | ‘Reveal how this public vehicle was damaged, and haul up the wrongdoers.’

1MDB chief Arul likens himself to a mechanic

SusahKes: No disrespect to most good mechanics, 1MDB president Arul Kanda, but my experience with mechanics has been more often vexing than pleasant.

For example, they will replace a part and assure you it will function for a good, long time; only for you to find that it goes haywire in a few weeks.

They will tell you, that your car needs this and that, all the while fully aware that you are no automobile expert (you can almost see them mentally preparing the bill while they "diagno$e" your car).

They say they will replace your engine oil with all that fully synthetic blah blah, only for you to find out that the actual oil used was of lower grade.

They will promise you free wheel balancing, follow-up checks, etc, if you send your car for service at their workshops, only to later find them spewing the "fine print" on the contract, which ends up rendering all post-service follow-ups as non-free.

So my question Arul, is what type of mechanic, are you? By the way, you allege that no money was missing from 1MDB as claimed by the United States Department of Justice (DOJ).

But what are you doing about the claim then? Someone just made you and 1MDB look extremely bad as financial managers; so bad, that the 'Wolf of Wall Street' is an angel by comparison.

What I perceive and see in you thus far is a person who, instead of taking the bull by the horns to repudiate or counter-investigate the DOJ claims, is merely content to go around offering "explanations" at government or Umno-controlled 'safe environments' (such as this session at Universiti Malaya).

Why do you want to "wait and see"? You mean to say, 1MDB doesn't have the capability to investigate if funds were "misappropriated"? Hey, it is your money, but you want to "take action”, only after the DOJ has proceeded with its case?

By Jove, if it was me (and I am not even a high flying investment banker), the first thing I would do, is to bang tables and get my top lawyers and forensic investigators to verify this humongous, and pretty much nationally embarrassing claims, made by the DOJ.

I mean, it's my money that's missing in the billions. But here you are, content at stating that, "no money was missing".

Excuse the parallel, but that to me, sounds like a janitor who tells his supervisor that he doesn't need to clean the toilets because no toilet paper rolls were used for the day. But such logic escapes you.

Oscar Kilo: “As far as 1MDB is aware, the US$1.5 billion is still there. We will wait and see what the DOJ finds. If it is indeed misappropriated, we can take action.”

What the heck? You think the money is still there, but yet you want to wait and see? If the money is really there, then just show us the money. Why the need to wait and see what the DOJ finds?

Actually, the DOJ has already found that money was embezzled and stolen and laundered. What more do you want the DOJ to find?

RCZ: If Arul is a half-past six mechanic and repairs half-past six cars, that's fine, as he need not inquire or bother himself as to how the car was damaged and whether there was foul play.

However, Arul is not a half-past six mechanic, and the car that he is repairing belongs to the public, and is a very important and valuable vehicle.

Arul is duty-bound to inquire into how the public vehicle worth billions was damaged, duty-bound to report the same publicly and duty-bound as CEO, to haul up the wrongdoers and have them sent to jail.

Anonymous 1890491455255851: The Falcon Bank has been shut down in Singapore because it was found to have laundered money related to 1MDB. This money went into the PM's account and matches the amount claimed to be a donation from an Arab.

Clearly there is much evidence to show that it was not a donation, but originated from a bond issue made in the US. Could Arul explain this to us common folk, because this has gone beyond allegations?

StrainingGnats, SwallowCamels: Quote: “Why am I still here? Like I have said earlier, I’m a mechanic. I want to be part of the solution. I have expertise in law, finance and restructuring of companies. At least, I have stood up to help...”

"Help" can be a malleable word. It depends on who you are the mechanic for, or who you are helping.

If you are the mechanic for yourself and whoever else, you are actually an obstruction to truth and justice, don't you think?

And that would be opposite of being "part of the solution"?

Demi Rakyat: There's no solution. 1MDB was an alleged massive scam to siphon and swindle billions of ringgit from the rakyat. And billions finally found its way into the private and personal account of Najib. It’s a total disgrace.

Vijay47: Yes, Arul, you may be a mechanic, but all four tyres are punctured and the engine is missing. ‘Jadi, macam mana’? (So how?)
