When you keep the hours like the cast of The Real O'Neals, you're bound to learn more about your co-stars than you probably ever really wanted to. After all, when you're bringing members of a close-knit family to life, there's bound to be a bit of life imitating art.
"It's impossible not to become close," Jay R. Ferguson, who stars as patriarch Pat O'Neal on the ABC comedy, told E! News. "When we're working, we spend more time with one another than we do with our real families."
"We have a sort of extreme intimacy," Martha Plimpton, who co-stars as his ex-wife Eileen, added.
There are some things, though, that the pair haven't always been so quick to share with one another. "That's right. Maybe too much honesty," Ferguson admitted. "But I will say that it did take me a while to tell Martha that Goonies made me want to be an actor when I was a kid. That took me a little while to work up the courage."

After they spilled their secrets, we also quizzed the two on what's in store for the O'Neals in season two now that Pat and Eileen are divorced (though still living in the same house) and their son Kenny (Noah Galvin) is firmly out of the closet.
"I think we see sort of the further stages of the navigation of our characters' divorce. You know, how we sort of arrange our living situation and also how we deal with new romance coming up," Plimpton teased. "It's sort of an unconventional situation because we all live in the same house and we're friends, but we know we can't be together as husband and wife anymore and sort of figuring that all out."
As for Kenny, look for him to find a friend he can relate to who also presents a new set of challenges for the kid to tackle. "He meets other kids. He makes a friend who's sort of like him," Plimpton added. "He makes a lesbian friend and has to learn how to respect her own boundaries as well."
The Real O'Neals returns for season two on Tuesday, Oct. 11 at 9:30 p.m. on ABC.
