A Vallejo teen was found hanging from a tree in a city park early Thursday in what police say appears to be a suicide.

Vallejo Police Dept. Lt. Kent Tribble said officers responded to a call about a male hanging from a tree in Lake Dalwigk Park at about 7:30 a.m. Thursday.

“Officers located a juvenile male hanging by his neck from a tree in the park,” he said. “They cut him down and Vallejo Fire Department paramedics and Medic Ambulance personnel tended to him, but he was pronounced deceased at the scene.”

The 16-year-old — whose name is being withheld because of his age — was found in the park by members of his family, Tribble said,

“He didn’t come home (Wednesday) night, and they were looking for him,” he said. “They hadn’t called police, but were searching on their own.”

All indications are that this was a suicide, and the young man had attempted it before, Tribble said.

“We get relatively steady suicide attempt calls, but ones that are actually completed are relatively infrequent,” he said.
