Grambling made a statement in the Southwestern Athletic Conference over the weekend with a win over Prairie View A&M.

Apparently the rest of the nation noticed.

Grambling cracked the rankings of the FCS Top 25 coaches poll Monday, earning 55 votes to come in at No. 25 ahead of William & Mary (43 points).

The national recognition isn't a first for Grambling's storied program, but the exposure had been limited during the past five or so years. That changed in 2015 when Grambling earned a spot in the  STATS FCS Top 25 during a perfect 9-0 conference run. It marked the first ranking since 2010 and the first by a SWAC team since Jackson State in 2011.

Grambling is knocking on the door of the FCS STATS poll this week. The Tigers came in at No. 26 with 305 points just behind Central Arkansas (363 points).

Grambling is 3-1 on the year with all three wins coming against SWAC teams. The Tigers knocked off two-time defending SWAC champions Alcorn State two weeks ago before upending Prairie View, the preseason pick by some to win it all, at the State Fair Classic.
