As technology develops, CAD, or computer aided design has revolutionalised this process in an unprecedented way. Now, there is a software helps bridge the gap between jewellery designers, retailers and the average Joe. 3DESIGN CAD software, created by Type3, part of the Gravotech group, is the software we are talking about.

Most jewellery designers may be quite familiar with Rhinoceros’ 3D jewellery plugins, which have been helpful tools in this regard. What’s different about 3DESIGN CAD software, however, is that it could be the first software that exclusively created for jewellery design, featured with some practical functions.
Parametric Solutions and Organic Shapes at the Same Time
3DESIGN uses parametric or associative technology. For those new to this field, this technology saves all the parameters of design, allowing for modifications at a later stage without having to start from scratch. This is also called the History Tree within the software.
This feature is actually not something new as we could find it in SolidWorks and other softwares.

3SHAPER is 3DESIGN’s organic software. For designers interested in pushing the design boundaries even further and to include freeform and organic shapes to their models, 3SHAPER could be the solution. Using subdivision modelling, designers can push, twist and bend models like they would with clay.

What 3DESIGN CAD software does is that it combines the parametric solutions and organic shapes together, making it a lot more convenient for designers to revise their works. This combination, though sounds simple, is indeed a big improvement.
I personally reckon that innovation is not always about creating news things. Smart integration of existing practical functions could also be an innovation. After all, it is the users that will eventually benefit from these improvements.
