Your Favorite '90s Beauty Trends Got a Chic Makeover on Fendi's Runway

From chokers and backpacks to grunge makeup and shaggy hair, everything '90s is getting new life in 2016. It seems the revival of these trends will extend well into next year, because the beauty look on the Fendi Spring 2017 runway was basically the cool-girl version of #TBT.

Stylist Sam McKnight arranged the models' strands into various styles we wore back in the day — half-up, pigtails, supersleek — all accessorized with funky studded hair clips. Instead of looking like a punk metallic accent, they appeared almost like Legos or candy, and their petite size reminded us of butterfly clips.

Makeup artist Peter Phillips crafted dramatic, graphic cat eyes that were sketched far past the inner and outer corners of the models' eyes, making them look large and doll-like. He completed the face with salmon-pink glitter lips that from a distance resembled molten rose gold. We're pretty sure that the finished look is something Baby Spice would totally approve of.

While we clearly saw a '90s influence in the hair and makeup, the true inspiration for Fendi's beauty was — if you can believe it — Vanellope von Schweetz of Wreck-It Ralph. According to Vogue, creative director Karl Lagerfeld asked for a "candy feeling" to the look. This makes for an excellent and fashion-forward Halloween costume concept, don't you think?
