A LEADING composer and choral conductor took centre stage for the official opening of a school’s new £3m music school.
Will Todd conducted a performance at Yarm School when singers of all ages, abilities and experience were able to come together on stage.
Following an afternoon of rehearsals and workshops, he help mark the official opening when140 singers performed in front of an audience.
Schola Cantorum, singers from Yarm School and Tees Valley Youth Choir, concluded the celebrations with an evening performance in the school’s Princess Alexandra Auditorium.
Headmaster David Dunn said: “To have someone of the calibre of Will Todd visit and conduct such an exciting day of singing was a real treat and it was a wonderful way to celebrate our wonderful music school’s formal opening.”
The facility boasts specialist music classrooms, ten instrumental tuition rooms, a drumming suite and a high-tech recording studio. In addition, there is a 140-seat lecture theatre with retractable seating, making it a truly flexible performance venue.
The school is holding an open morning on Saturday, September 24 between 9am and noon.
