Nico Olsen led the Cabrillo College men’s water polo team with six goals in a 14-5 win over Santa Rosa on the first day of the De Anza Tournament.
Noah Brooks scored five goals, Buzz Craig two and Gerry Melo scored one. Ricky Chavez had nine blocks as keeper for Cabrillo (4-6).
The Seahawks will face host De Anza on Day 2 of the De Anza Tournament on Saturday at 3 p.m.
Girls tennis
At Scotts Valley 7, Harbor 0 >> Jade Zeleblic defeated Stacy Figueroa, 6-1, 6-3, at No. 4 singles as the Falcons swept the visiting Pirates in Santa Cruz Coast Athletic League action.
In doubles, Scotts Valley’s No. 1 team of Sheena Gee and Vineha Ramesh took down Sally Lootfi and Susan Sebastian, 6-0, 6-1. And at No. 2, Celeste Charlet and Isabel Hammana won over Maelin Ramones and Sam Gallardo, 6-0, 6-1.
Scotts Valley (3-2) next hosts Santa Cruz on Tuesday at 3:30 p.m.
Surfing
Mel ousted in Round 2 >> Santa Cruz’s John Mel won his first heat but was eliminated in Round 2 of the RVCA Pro Junior in Newport Beach, event No. 26 of 33 on the World Surf League’s Junior Tour.
Mel (10.63) finished behind fellow U.S surfers Nolan Rapoza (18.10), Taro Watanabe (12.57) and Jett Schilling (11.57).
Mel posted a 12.67 total to win his opening heat. He topped Micah Crozier (8.70), Zach McCormick (6.13) and Joshua Chester (4.20).
Girls water polo
Harbor 12, Alvarez 5 >> Ana Burrow and Allie Bare both scored three goals to lead the Pirates to a Monterey Bay League Pacific Division victory on Thursday at Santa Cruz High.
Mila Colfer pitched in two goals for Harbor (5-2, 5-2).
Harbor will be at the Watsonville Tournament on Saturday.
