Calvin Harris is playing hard to get.

The Scottish DJ is currently making the radio station rounds promoting his latest single "My Way," so it's only natural he's already fielded quite a few probing questions about the lyrics' meaning. And without actually mentioning ex Taylor Swift's name in any of his interviews, it's safe to say fans of either artist are listening in for even the slightest insight that Harris wrote "My Way" as a breakup ballad.

As it turns out, the inspiration for the track struck Harris long before he started dating the "Shake It Off" songstress.

Dishing to Elvis Duran on Z100, the 32-year-old revealed, "I thought of the concept years ago when I left [grocery store] Safeway. I was trying to move to London and I was working in the store in Scotland. I was trying to go down and make music for a living, but I couldn't because I didn't have any money."

Recalling his mindset at the time, he continued, "You get brainwashed into thinking it's as good as you're going to get, and then you have to realize actually there's a whole world out there. When you're stuck in that situation you can't see that, you don't think you're going to become anything. So it's really just that. That was just a concept in the back of my mind, but I had no idea how to put that into words until very recently."

Sounds like this fairly vague situation could be applied to a messy breakup, no? Well, when Calvin stopped by On Air With Ryan Seacrest he confirmed the notion, telling Ryan Seacrest, "It could be a job that you hate, and then you quit the job then life is awesome. It could be about a relationship and you get rid of the girl or the guy then life is awesome."

He added, "I think it's like an amalgamation of events in my life since maybe the past 10 years."

Harris also told Duran he doesn't consider himself an "autobiographical singer," and amid increased media attention on his every move, he's much more careful about the messages his music imply.

In a separate interview with BBC Radio 1Calvin said of discussing his personal life in a public sphere, "I almost just don't want to say anything about anything because I know no matter what I say it's going to be linked back to some kind of event. Or something is going to be twisted and I just have no control over it so I'm just kind of over saying stuff at all."

In that case, we'll just let "My Way" speak for itself.
