Alex Scott wants England to be ruthless in their upcoming games against Estonia and Belgium to prepare them properly for Euro 2017

Alex Scott has paid tribute to England women's football pioneer Sylvia Gore MBE, who passed away last week.

Gore scored 134 goals in a single season and made history when she scored in a 3-2 victory over Scotland in England's first official match on November 18, 1972.

Sylvia Gore has died at the age of 71.

The midfielder joined Manchester Corinthians in the 1950s and helped Fodens shock the all-conquering Southampton in the 1974 FA Women's Cup final.

She went on to manage Wales in the 1980s, was inducted into the Hall of Fame at the National Football Museum in 2014, and in March became an ambassador for Manchester City Women.

And Scott says Gore was one of the most inspirational individuals in women's football.

"It was such a sad loss for most of us to hear about Sylvia passing away," she told Sky Sports News HQ.

"She was such a wonderful woman. She came to all our England games and she was such a supporter.

"Even when she's stopped playing she was a pioneer trying to push women's sport forward, women's football. Our thoughts go out to all our family and friends because it is such a tragic loss."

England take on Estonia on Thursday at Meadow Lane in their final qualifier ahead of the UEFA Women's European Championships in 2017 in the Netherlands.

England are top of their group and have already qualified, and will look to continue their unbeaten record against Estonia.

And Scott says despite the national team being in such a comfortable position entering the qualifier, England still have to be ruthless.

"Our mentality is we have to go into these games and we have to be ruthless," she said.

"In the Euros we're going to be coming up against such a dichotomy of different styles.

"It's going into these games implementing a game-plan that we can break down and be ruthless."
