Considering the amount of time celebrities spend in the makeup chair with wands, brushes, and sponges whirling around their faces, it's only natural that they'd absorb a great deal of beauty intel from the artists they hire. In fact, for many celebrity–makeup artist relationships, the bond is much more than a professional contract. These close collaborators are often good friends off set, too. It's simply the nature of the industry. Artists aren't tight-lipped about their process, but rather generously share what they find works best. By trade, celebrities pass on the beauty knowledge that they've soaked in, too.

Add a bit of oil to your foundation for increased luminosity

Makeup sponge movement is key

When asked which beauty trick she's learned that's stayed with her the most, Eva Longoria offers this tried-and-true product-repurposing tip: "Sometimes I use a bit of concealer as a base on my eyelids since it can help my eyeshadow stay in place longer and it’s one less product to lug around, since I usually always have a concealer in my bag."

A lighter can instantly transform your eye pencil

Padma Lakshmi has been immersed in beauty classes since she was a young girl and then inadvertently as a model. "I just had an innate curiosity and a lot of practice," she tells us. "In high school, my friends and I would light matches to our eyeliner—in those days, at least in my price bracket, you didn't have soft, smooth, creamy eyeliners that would blend but also stay on. And then when I started modeling, of course, because I was interested in makeup, I soaked up all the information I could get from every makeup artist, editor, and fellow model."

…And your lip liner, too

Rather than using a lighter to change the texture of her liner, Karlie Kloss learned that doing so is great for hygienic reasons. "I love a good lip liner. If you want to disinfect a liner, perhaps you had a cold last time you used it, heat the tip with a lighter to disinfect it," she says.
