Monte Vista Christian School’s girls volleyball team hardly made the trip to San Jose worth it Tuesday with a 25-9, 25-21, 25-17 win over host Harker.

Newcomer Christine Vea helped the Mustangs (3-0) rally from behind in the third set by serving 12 straight points, including five aces. Sjea Anderson got an ace of her own along with 23 kills and 17 digs and Greysen Gilroy added 23 assists.

MVC hosts Soquel in nonleague action Thursday at 6:30 p.m.

At Soquel 3, Los Gatos 0 >> Soquel got its season off on a good step with a 25-21, 25-19, 25-23 victory.

Maggie Walters led Soquel (1-0) with 22 kills and also had 19 digs. Also for Soquel, Sam Strah had 13 kills and 22 digs, while Jordan Farley had 46 assists and 10 digs.

On Thursday, Soquel will play at MVC at 6:30 p.m. in a nonleague match.

Salinas 3, at Aptos 2 >> Salinas outlasted the Mariners 25-21, 23-25, 18-25, 25-18, 15-7. Jillian Rodriguez and Maddie Smith both had 14 kills for Aptos (0-3). Rodriguez also had 20 digs and Smith had 10.

Aptos will host St. Francis of Mountain View on Friday at 6:30 p.m., while Salinas will be at the Clovis Volleyball Challenge starting Friday.

Pajaro Valley 3, at Anzar 1 >> Pajaro Valley downed the Hawks 25-17, 17-25, 25-21, 25-15 in a nonleague match.

Pajaro Valley (1-1) will be at Pacific Collegiate at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday. Anzar will be at North Monterey County on Wednesday at 6:30 p.m.

Scotts Valley 3, at Watsonville 0 >> Sam Boyle led Scotts Valley with eight kills in a 25-19, 25-22, 25-17 sweep of the Wildcatz. Serena Garcia and Casson Rasmussen both added seven kills and Maile Sussman chipped in six kills and seven aces for the Falcons (1-1).

Scotts Valley opens Santa Cruz Coast Athletic League play hosting Aptos next Tuesday at 6:30 p.m. Watsonville (1-1) hosts Pacific Grove Wednesday at 6:30 p.m.

Santa Teresa 3, SLV 0 >> Sophomore Elena Ballas led the Cougars with three kills, but San Lorenzo Valley dropped its opener on the road. Kaelynn Gregory put up seven blocks for SLV (0-1), which hosts Kirby on Thursday at 6:30 p.m.

Girls water polo

Harbor 13, Monterey 10 (OT) >> Savanna Dayton and Ahnise Morvey led the Pirates with five goals each as the Pirates (2-0) prevailed in the Monterey Bay League Pacific Division game.

Catie Montante led Monterey (0-2, 0-2) with nine goals and Alanna Webb scored the other goal. Goalie Olivia Burton had 15 saves.

Next up is Salinas at Santa Catalina High next Tuesday at 6 p.m.

Harbor will face Salinas at Santa Cruz High on Thursday at 7 p.m.

Soquel 16, San Lorenzo Valley 1 >> Shea Salvino led Soquel (2-0, 2-0) with five goals and two assist in the MBK-G game at Cabrillo College.

Malea Jordan scored four goals, had three assists and four steals, while Viviane King-Adas scored two goals and had two assists. Goalie Hannah Hanry had six saves.

Soquel will be at St. Francis Autumn Invitational this Friday facing Castilleja at Sacred Heart Prep at 1:50 p.m. SLV (0-1, 0-1) will host Santa Cruz on Thursday at 4 p.m.

At Carmel 6, Santa Cruz 3 >> River Thomas had nine saves in goal as Santa Cruz (2-1, 1-1) came up short against the host Padres in a MBL-Gabilan Division game. Angelica Randazzo scored two goals for Santa Cruz and Quinlynn Barry added one more.

Santa Cruz (2-1, 1-1) will play at SLV on Thursday at 4 p.m. in another MBL-G match.

Boys water polo

Soquel 18, at Salinas 4 >> Charlie Bailey led Soquel with four goals as the Knights downed Salinas (0-2, 0-1) at Hartnell College in an MBL-G game.

Henry Bistrin scored three goals and had three assists for the Knights (2-0, 2-0), while Jafet Hernandez added three goals and three steals. Jake Graessle and Cooper White each scored twice, while Matthew Blackmun and Kalani Fouts both had two goals and four steals.

Soquel plays at Aptos next Tuesday at 6 p.m. and Salinas will be at Santa Cruz on Thursday at 5 p.m.

Monterey 20, Harbor 7 >> Dylan Gibbs and Jacob Frese each scored three goals and goalie Andres Poehner had 16 saves for Monterey (2-3, 2-0) in a MBL Pacific game at Watsonville High.

Monterey travels to Christopher on Thursday at 4 p.m. Harbor (0-2, 0-2) will face San Lorenzo Valley at Santa Cruz High on Thursday at 6 p.m.

Girls tennis

At York 4, St. Francis 3 >> No. 4 singles player Megan Kelly earned a 6-1, 6-3 win at the Chamisal Tennis Club in Salinas, but the Sharks suffered their second single-match loss in as many games this season.

St. Francis also got wins from its Nos. 2 and 3 doubles teams, which lost when the Sharks hosted Marin in their season opener Thursday at Imperial Courts in Aptos. They also lost that match, 4-3.

The Sharks (0-2) will try for their first win Tuesday when they host Carmel at Imperial Courts at 3:30 p.m.

At Carmel 6, Soquel 1 >> The doubles team of June Cavlan and Barbara Sanfur earned Soquel’s lone win.

Shannon Schroeder, Dillan Chiewpanich, Emily Apfel and Dana Donaldson were all singles winners for the host Padres.

Carmel will face St. Francis at Imperial RC next Tuesday at 3:30 p.m.
