Aptos High’s girls tennis team sliced through visiting San Benito on Monday with a 7-0 nonleague sweep.
Lyndsey Mott battled for her win, 6-4, 6-2, over the Haybalers’ Julia Pearson.
Amy Buchanan and Magdalena Sanchez teammed up for the 6-2, 6-0 win at No. 1 doubles, and Kaitlin Sakae and Ava Totah won 6-0, 6-0 at No. 2 doubles. All the Mariners (2-0) won in straight sets.
Aptos opens its road campaign next with a nonleague match at Salinas on Wednesday at 3:30 p.m.
Girls volleyball
MVC 3, Scotts Valley 0 >> Sisters Shelby and Sjea Anderson stole the show for Monte Vista Christian in a nonleague win over visiting Scotts Valley, 25-11, 25-17, 25-12.
Outside hitter Sjea paired 17 kills with 17 digs and middle Shelby added five kills and two blocks for the Mustangs (2-0).
Libero Carson Gilroy also made 17 digs, setter Mattea Romo put up 17 assists with three aces and five kills and role-mate Greysen Gilroy added 11 assists and three aces. Cassidy Sherman made three aces and three kills and freshman Allie Tillery added five kills and a block.
MVC plays again Tuesday at Harker in San Jose at 6:15 p.m.
St. Francis 3, NMC 0 >> The Sharks won their season opener 25-16, 25-12, 25-10 over North Monterey County in Castroville.
St. Francis(1-0) opens its home slate against Kirby on Tuesday at 6:30 p.m.
