Exclusive First Look

Ashley Graham's 2016 VMA Hair Is Beachy-Chic Perfection

Her shorter, wavy hair is super sexy.

It's no big surprise that Ashley Graham's entire vibe is on point at the 2016 MTV Video Music Awards. The model always looks supersexy—I mean, it is her job. But we were stoked to get the exclusive details on her chic bob, which she paired with a sheer, floor-length gown from Naeem Kham. (BTW, loving that Graham has her own unique take on the sheer clothing trend.

But back to that bob. Her hairstylist Renato Campora tells Allure exclusively that although "Ashley recently cut her hair, and it looked amazing, as soon as she sat down tonight and we talked about the dress, I knew it would look even better if we brought the length up a bit to really elongate her neckline." And the secret to the texture Campora achieved? Razored ends.

"While her hair was wet, I razored the ends just enough to frame her face and then created a tousled style that used no hot tools and emphasized her natural wave," he adds. "Ashley was thrilled with the final look. She loved how undone and sexy it made her feel," says Campora.

Renato Campora for Dove Hair

Want to get Graham's wet look for yourself at home? No problem. Campora broke down how he created Ashley Graham's 2016 VMA hair, step by step.

  1. Starting with wet hair, massage a dollop of Dove Curls Defining Mousse ($4, target.com) from roots to ends, scrunching to enhance the natural waves. (Note: Graham's natural texture is wavy, and this works best on wavy- or curly-haired girls like her.)

  2. To seal the cuticle, use a dime-size amount of Dove Regenerative Nourishment Serum-in-Oil ($6, target.com). It's full of hydrating ingredients, like dimethicone, coconut oil, and sweet-almond oil.

  3. Let hair dry naturally. (Graham had her makeup done—#glamsquadproblems.)

  4. Finish by spritzing a generous amount of Dove Extra Hold Hairspray ($4, target.com), which Campora says will "lock in the look."

Considering how easy her superchic shag looks, I'm thinking about razoring off a few inches myself now.
