Oregon Head Coach Mark Helfrich was candid with the media on Tuesday, but did not quite tip his hand either way with who the Starting Quarterback would be. Dakota Prukop along with Travis Jonsen and Justin Herbert have been the most talked about so far. It appears that Prukop has the edge, but Herbert has impressed in Fall Camp.

Helfrich gave the Freshman some praise, “He’s a very productive guy and has had a very good camp so far.” Asked if he could make the depth chart for the team,’Sure, Absolutely.” The decision will be made by the end of this week. The Ducks Coach said that Defense had some solid competition and a spot there would be difficult to project.

Linebacker is an area that the Oregon Ducks need to fill entering the season and they have the talent to do it with the shift to the 4-3 Style of Defense. Helfrich talked about the talent, “We have a lot of really good competition and a lot of different athletes.” One area that will need that talent is Special Teams and the players chosen to play will likely have multiple roles.

Overall, the team is in good shape, with just a few bumps and bruises in Fall Camp. Darren Carrington who injured himself last week at the Saturday practice said he should be out just a few weeks and this week Devon Allen returns from his time at the Rio Olympics.

One area the coaches will look at is who to play, and who to sit for the season. That may be the hardest part of building the Depth Chart for the 2016 season, ” said Helfrich

You need to make a commitment to play a guy if you going to burn a redshirt, We’re trying to look out for their well being in the long term.” Beyond that it appears business as usual, “We’ll come out and have our practice depth chart in a few days..we’ll move toward UC Davis after this final scrimmage and have those discussions at every position.”

Oregon Football begins with UC Davis on Saturday, September 3rd(2pm Pacific Time, Pac-12 Networks)
