A new study by Facebook shows that "cat people" are more likely to be single and have fewer friends. The

was released Sunday.

The study revealed, on average, dog people have 26 more Facebook friends than cat people. However, cat people get invited to more events.

In addition, the stereotype of cat people being single shows, at least when it comes to relationship statuses on the social site — about 30 percent are single compared to their dog counterparts at 24 percent.

But unlike the stereotype, being single and a cat lover isn't related to age or gender — younger cat-lovers, and male cat-lovers of all ages are just as likely as older female cat-lovers to be single. Some of these relationship results may be due to urban/rural differences in where cat- and dog-people live

, the study said.

Facebook said cat people like to do more indoor activities, like reading books, and watching TV and movies, which was determined by Facebook "likes."

"And cat people are especially fond of fantasy, sci-fi and anime, while dog people like love stories and things about, well, dogs."

As far as where they live, dog people tend to live in more rural areas, while cat people are found living in cities.
