A while back, a horrifying Rugrats theory began circulating on Tumblr. It was called the "Rugrats Never Happened" theory, and basically speculated that all of the kids were made up by Angelica to cope with her absentee parents.
"None of the babies in Rugrats actually exist, but they are all instead figments of Angelica’s imagination, as result of her parent’s negligence," Tumblr user radioretailiation wrote. "Chuckie died with his mother, which explains how much of a nervous wreck his father is. Tommy was a stillborn baby, which explains why his father, Stu, was always in the basement making toys for the son he never had. Finally, the DeVilles had an abortion. To compensate for not knowing the sex of the baby, Angelica invented twins in her head, one boy, one girl."
There were a few other iterations of the idea as well, but that's the terrible, horrible gist of it, which has thankfully been debunked by one of the creators.
"A lot of people believe that conspiracy theory," Arlene Klasky told Buzzfeed at Comic Con, "And no, it's not true."
