YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio (WKBN) – Youngstown State University was packed with swimmers Saturday, all hoping to take home a trophy or two.
Over 600 swimmers competed in four main events in Youngstown Swim Club’s end-of-the-year meet.
Competitors swam freestyle, the backstroke, the breast stroke and the butterfly. Club members are on eight different teams from the Youngstown-Warren area, ranging from ages six through 18.
“This is a recreational league, although it is very intense. As you’ll see, there’s some very fast swimmers here, there’s kids that are state ranked and on the USA teams and also high schools’ teams, state ranked, you also have some kids that are beginners,” said Applewood Swim Club’s head coach Carlo Cordon.
Last year, the Firestone Area Swim Team won the championship. So far, they are in first place again this year.
