In between all the Final Fantasy re-releaases, Tomb Raider's 20th anniversary celebration, and Final Fantasy XV's upcoming release in September, Square Enix has found time to start working on a new IP. A teaser trailer posted on Square Enix Japan's YouTube account earlier today reveals the scheduled revealing of their upcoming RPG known only as Kamitsuri.
Anyone that's fluent in Japanese is welcome to translate all this for us, particularly if the trailer is teasing part of the game's story. Aside from the music and revealing a couple of characters, the teaser trailer excels at being a tease for those of us who are lacking in the ability to translate from Japanese. No console logos of any kind were revealed in the trailer, so right now it's only announcing an announcement.
If the idea of a new role playing game from Square Enix piques your interest, keep an eye out. The developer is planning to reveal more information about Kamitsuri on August 1. RPG fans looking for something new only have to wait until Monday to learn more information about this mysterious new project from Square Enix. At the very least, we'll hopefully learn what platform(s) Kamitsuri will be released on and whether there are plans to localize the title.
Not sure if it's set in feudal Japan, but it certainly looks that way. It looks like it might be in the spirit realm of Japanese Shinto where they still use feudal clothes & weapons?
The title means something about Gods since "kami" means God. Don't know about "tsuri," though. Google Translate says "fishing," or "hanging"? Not sure how it fits into the context of the title though.
I know almost nothing about the Japanese language, so I am probably wrong, but maybe it is a combination of kami (god) and matsuri (festival)?
