Meeting Description:

The Department of Linguistics, Deccan College Post-Graduate & Research Institute, Pune is delighted to announce the International Seminar on Munda Linguistics to be held at the Deccan College PG & RI, Pune from 16-17 March 2017 in collaboration with the Central Institute of Indian languages, Mysore.

The goal of this seminar is to create a forum to discuss issues concerning linguistic perspectives, anthropological perspectives, genetic perspectives and others in relation to Munda languages spoken in India. The discussion on various themes on Munda languages will help us in our studies related to understanding the relationship among various Munda branches and variation within branches, a proto-Munda reconstruction, peopling history and ethno-cultural aspects in detail.

Call for Papers:

We invite researchers to submit abstracts for presentations at the seminar all with empirical data from various Munda languages, including, but not limited to topics such as:

1. How Austro-Asiatic should be split between Munda and other languages?
2. The Linguistic variation among various Munda-sub branches.
3. Distribution of selected linguistic features within various Munda sub-branches.
4. Deviating features within Munda sub-branches.
5. Cultural history of Munda people.
6. Genetic understanding of Munda population and their migration.
7. Language contact issues in Munda languages

Important Dates:

Deadline for abstract submission: 30 October 2016

Notification of acceptance: 15 November 2016

In case of acceptance, the full paper will be due by 30 January 2017
