Genshiken: Second Season Sequel Manga Ends in August

Shimoku Kio's sequel inspired TV anime in 2013

The September issue of Kodansha's Monthly Afternoon magazine revealed on Monday that Shimoku Kio's Genshiken: Second Season (Genshiken: Nidaime) sequel manga will end in the magazine's next issue, which Kodansha will publish on August 25.

Kodansha Comics publishes the manga in North America, and it describes the story:

A new academic year means new members for the lovably misfit Genshiken: The Society for the Study of Modern Visual Culture! Club president Chika Ogiue now has to manage a fresh-faced trio of yaoi fans (one of whom dabbles in cross-dressing), a surly American transfer student with a penchant for obscure anime quotes, and her own rising career as a professional manga artist. Can she actually find time to draw her own vanity project for Comic-Fest?

The manga is a sequel to Kio's earlier Genshiken manga. Kio launched the manga in Monthly Afternoon in 2011. Kodansha published the manga's 12th compiled book volume on June 23. Kodansha Comics published the manga's eighth volume on March 15. Both Genshiken and Genshiken: Second Season inspired television anime series and original video anime (OVA). The first manga's television anime series premiered in 2004 and 2007, while the anime series based on Genshiken: Second Generation premiered in 2013.

Del Rey published the first Genshiken manga series as well as the Kujibiki Unbalance spinoff in North America. Media Blasters licensed the first two Genshiken television anime series, the Genshiken videos, and the Kujibiki Unbalance anime. Crunchyroll streamed the Genshiken: Second Generation television anime as it aired in Japan, and NIS America released the anime on Blu-ray in February 2015.
