TOURE TO SIGN TODAY, TURK ON RADAR

BRENDAN RODGERS expects to be reunited with his former Liverpool defender Kolo Toure today.

The 35-year-old Ivorian centre-half has been a free agent since being released by the Anfield side in the summer.

Toure had offers from Abu Dhabi and Qatar before deciding to join the Irishman at the five-in-a-row champions.

Rodgers has been searching for an answer to his problem position in the middle of the defence with Jozo Sumonovic and Dedryck Boyata both sidelined with injury, out-of-contract Charlie Mulgrew linked with Championship side Sheffield Wednesday and the continued erratic form of Efe Ambrose.

The experienced Toure cost Manchester City £14million when he moved from Arsenal in July 2009. Rodgers snapped him up for the Merseyside outfit four years later as a free agent.

Now, three years on, the manager and player will get together again in the east end of Glasgow.

The Hoops have also been linked with Fenerbahce full-back Hasan Ali Kaldirim.

Parkhead scouts have been watching the 27-year-old Turkish international who is in the final year of his contract at the Istanbul club.

Celtic were impressed by the defender – who can play left-back or centre-half, when he starred in the Europa League clashes between the clubs last season.

Fenerbahce are hoping to persuade Kaldirim to pen a new deal, but discussions have stalled and they could be prepared to accept around £2million rather than risk losing him for nothing next summer.

The Turk was a £4million signing from Kayserispor in 2012 and has won 16 caps for his country.

Rodgers is determined to strengthen his squad ahead of the new campaign at home and abroad with the difficult Champions League qualifier against Astana due in Kazakhstan on Wednesday.
