Scotts Valley High’s Gabby Sandoval helped California win two national team championships this week at the Cadet/Junior National Championships in Fargo, North Dakota.
On Sunday, Sandoval, an incoming junior at Scotts Valley, went 3-2 in her weight class to help California garner the National Girls Cadet Team Title. California registered 61 points to beat out runner-up Wisconsin (49) and New York (28), among others.
“Fargo Nationals Day 1 didn’t go as planned. I have much to learn,” Sandoval said in an email. “Thank you everyone for all the support.”
Sandoval returned to the mat Monday and Tuesday to help California also win the National Girls Junior Team Title with 111 points over Washington (49) and Texas (42).
Sandoval reached the semifinals of the California Interscholastic Federation Girls State Championships at 111 pounds last February. She did not place individually in either division at nationals.
