Santa Cruz’s Elise Locke finished 78th during preliminary heats of the 200-meter butterfly at the USA Swimming Olympic Trials in Omaha, Neb., on Wednesday.
Locke, a junior at Washington State and an alumna of Presentation in San Jose, recorded a time of 2 minutes, 17.84 seconds. She finished 9.55 seconds off first-place finisher Cammile Adams (2:08.29).
Only the top 16 advance to semifinals.
Locke qualified for the trials after posting a 2:14.86 in the 200 fly at the Arena Pro Swim Series in Santa Clara.
Thursday, La Selva’s Andrew Porter will compete in preliminary heats for the 200-meter individual medley.
Little League
Capitola Soquel 13, Scotts Valley 6 >> Nolan Nguyen connected on a pair of hits, including a three-run homer, and Capitola-Soquel improved to 3-0 in pool play following their victory against Scotts Valley in the District 39 Tournament at Scotts Valley Little League.
Ryan Pidcock also went 2-for-2, while pitcher Dylan Williams struck out six across 3 2/3 innings to earn the win for Capitola-Soquel, which will play Watsonville on Friday.
Blake LaRiviere had three hits for Scotts Valley, which will next play San Lorenzo Valley.

McGehee extends hit streak >> Santa Cruz’s Casey McGehee extended his hit streak to six games in Triple-A Toledo’s 4-2 win over Norfolk in International League play. The Soquel High alum was 2-for-3 with a home run and two RBIs.
McGehee is batting .333 during his last six games and .315 on the season for the Mud Hens (33-45).
Ferguson knocks in 3 >> Santa Cruz’s Collin Ferguson was 2-for-4 with a home run and three RBIs in Single-A Modesto’s 10-4 win against Stockton in California League play on Tuesday night.
The Santa Cruz High alum has had back-to-back multi-hit games for the Nuts (29-47), improving his batting average to .208 on the season.
