AMD wants to start a Radeon Rebellion (or at least a revolution) with its new Radeon RX 480 graphics card, boasting VR-ready gaming performance equivalent to the NVIDIA GeForce GTX 970 series for a fraction of the retail pricing. The RX 480 officially launched earlier today with suggested retail pricing of $199 USD for the 4GB model and $249 USD for the 8GB edition, though of course more fully featured releases from AMD's AIB partners will see higher prices.
Nevertheless, delivering a potential 5.8 teraflops of GPU performance thanks to the 14nm Polaris architecture certainly makes for a fine conversion point. AMD is particularly keen to stress how the RX 480 will go a long way in helping your rig deliver the minimum 90 FPS level of performance recommended for nausea-free VR-gaming on the Oculus Rift and HTC Vive headsets without the exhorbitant costs (and power consumption).
Neoseeker's Wassim gives us a closer look at the RX 480 and puts it to the test in his newest video review! Be sure to check it out if you're been on the lookout for a cost-effective graphics card upgrade that doesn't necessarily prioritize 4K gaming, but still has what it takes to handle 1080p at 60 FPS for many modern PC games.
