When Nintendo announced that The Legend of Zelda would be their primary focus at E3 by being the only game on the show floor, nobody thought twice because it had been in development for years. Now that we know the full title of Zelda Wii U is The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, fans are currently deciding whether to buy the Wii U or upcoming NX version. At today's annual shareholder meeting hours ago, Nintendo president Tatsumi Kimishima may have helped answer that question for some fans. He confirmed that Breath of the Wild would be the only Wii U release in 2017.
While that shouldn't come as a major surprise since it was originally planned to be this year's only major Wii U release, Kimishima's statement suggests the Wii U is going to be retired fairly quickly after the NX releases in March. Kimishima also said the Wii U would "continue to fight on," but it's hard for a console to survive when it doesn't have any games planned.
Whether Nintendo means Breath of the Wild is the only Nintendo game coming to the Wii U in 2017 or the only game launching period remains to be seen. When The Legend of Zelda was originally the only release planned for 2016, Tokyo Mirage Sessions likely wasn't planned. Only time will tell what, if anything, the next year holds for Nintendo's struggling Wii U console with the NX due out in March.
All know what it won't be though, and that's a pachinko machine.
I'll make my decision on what version to get once we know more about the NX, but this game looked amazing at e3 and I'm hoping for an awesome one!
Yeah, what they showed at E3 was from the Wii U version of the game.
That's assuming they plan to price point Sony/MS retail releases, but why wouldn't they? And in that case, competitive anyway. 299-399 USD (look at Scorpio for comparisons sake 299, Neo aiming to compete though it's not nearly as much of an upgrade), unless they throw a curve like with the Wii U pad.
