There's just something about Monopoly and video games lately that's got everyone wanting to get in on the fun. The recent craze appears to have started with Fallout last September. Since then, we've seen Super Mario Bros. Monopoly. Two sets is hardly enough to consider a trend, but Square Enix today announced that Final Fantasy VII would also be getting in on the fun. No, that's not a typo and I didn't mean XV. Final Fantasy VII is getting its own Monopoly set in 2017 to celebrate the game's 20th anniversary.
Cloud, Aerith, Sephiroth, and the rest of the Final Fantasy VII cast will be passing Go and collecting 200 "gil" this April as the iconic video game meets the iconic board game. The preliminary box art viewable above is still subject to change, but shows every playable character except Yuffie and Vincent, suggesting the unmissable members of the Final Fantasy VII crew may be this game's playable tokens. The set as a whole is still in development, so there aren't any final pictures to share that would solidify any speculation.
The Monopoly set will be exclusive to online retailers, but right now only Merchoid is accepting orders. The box art for the set is still subject to change. Merchoid hopes to have images of the board, pieces, cards, and everything else you'd expect to see from a Final Fantasy VII Monopoly set in the near future. The Gold Saucer will be available to purchase when Final Fantasy VII Monopoly releases in April 2017.
Bet the villa in Costa Del Sol costs 300,000 gil... because if it doesn't Cloud got seriously ripped off in game.
