Firaxis is celebrating 25 years of Civilization with VI this October, and they're doing it with style. We've already gotten our look at the new leader for the United States, so it's only fair that the next civ reveal for Civilization VI is the British Empire. Loyal subjects of the crown need not fear, as Her Majesty Queen Victoria is assuming the throne to lead England to become a civ that will stand the test of time.
While Gandhi may not be too thrilled about the Empress of India coming in to stop a second Indian rebellion before it starts, Her Majesty is bringing the Red coats back now that Washington's minutemen are no more. The Red coat unit gains a combat bonus when fighting on a separate continent from London or whatever you've called the English capital, and they can disembark from water tiles without using any movement points. England also gets the sea dog unit, which is known for bullying weaker naval units and is capable of capturing ships.
Of course, to keep sea dogs in shape, you'll need a shipyard. Britain also gets the unique Royal Navy dock yard district. The dock yard will provide extra movement points to ships built there. Additionally, the dock yard will reward you with extra gold for docks built on other continents. If you'd rather not repeat history and colonize most of the world with the English civ, archaeologists and museum districts will provide you with points toward a cultural victory.
Sid Meier's Civilization VI is due out October 21 for PC gamers. While there are too many civs for Firaxis to possibly reveal them all individually prior to VI's release later this year, it looks like they're willing to share some of the more popular civs to keep players hyped up. There's no telling which civ Firaxis will give a sneak peek of next.
ALSO BRITAIN! NOT ENGLAND. Elizabeth was Queen of England, Victoria was Queen of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland. She was born after 1801 when the Kingdom of Great Britain absorbed Ireland. In fact we've not had a King/Queen of England since 1707 when England and Scotland ceased being two independent kingdoms.
Bit of a history gripe there.
It's just a game inspired by history, If you want closer to the real thing, there's a mod for that. I think it's called Rhyes of Civilization and is bundled with Civ4.. not sure about 5.
I see they've kept the one unit per tile gameplay. (groan) I hope this doesn't apply to worker/settler units anymore. Micromanaging their path so moves aren't wasted is irritating, especially on larger maps.
