PBS's Casanova, Starring: David Tennant (harry potter & Doctor who) and Peter O'Toole (Lawerence of Arabia) in the title role, is absolutely wonderful. Written by Russell T Davies, of Doctor who fame, seamlessly flips from the past to the present in this wonderfullied played version of Giacamo Casanova's life. David Tennant is charming, witty, and bright as the young casanova. While Peter O' Toole matches what he lacks in age to Tennant's performance. The supporting cast was carefully chose, and it shows. They help to make this Casanova story more then just infamous, but believable. If you are a fan of David Tennant, you will no doubt want this dvd for your collection. If you are a fan of Giacamo Casanova, you'll find this adaptation close to the text. And if you are a fan of Master Piece Theatre, you will not be disappointed. All-in-all, a great movie. If you can't sit and watch for 3/4 hours take it in strides. (it's broken into 2 parts) Though I highly doubt you will want to stop watching it after the first few moments....Read full review
I bought this movie because I wanted to see David Tennant in something else besides Doctor Who and Shaun Parkes who was in a Doctor Who episode I watched recently. The only problem I had was that there were no subtitles. I've become very dependent on subtitles. Still, I could hear/understand most of it, and when I couldn't would rewind and listen again. I enjoyed the movie.

'Casanova' was very enjoyable, with a great range of emotion and colorful scenes but would we expect any less from Russell T Davies and Masterpiece Theatre? An interesting blend of historical scenery, interpretive wardrobe and modern language, what could have been a disastrous combination actually worked in a very enjoyable, refreshing quirkiness. At times a racuous romp, others a tender love story, and even times of intense drama, the movie has depth and interest. The seasoned actors were all excellent. While there is no nudity, there is a great deal of sexual portrayal (It's Casanova after all!), so definitely not for children. I would recommend this movie for anyone who enjoys a thoughtful, interesting movie with tender storytelling.
LOVE IT!!!Wonderful version following this naughty boy around Venice. With a fresh take on fashion, costumes and the true farse of pretending you are like everyone else---just to fit in. Throw in a fantastic writer pulling the strings, and a stunning actor(although David has wonderful brown eyes--the blue eyes are weird...)who lets emotion drip across his face--from fun to fantastic, sadness to silly, from triumph to tagic, from seducer to being seduced. Bottom line is the secret to a womans heart is revealed-- the secret to Casanova's sucess, a secret that still works today. It's all in the movie you will treasure and watch again and again...
It's a wonderfully fantastic movie. Peter O'Toole and David Tennant do an absolutely lovely job. The acting is superb and the story is wonderful. When watching, however, watchers have to remember there are two parts to the film, or else they will think the movie bad because they'll have seen only the first part as I did... The cinematography is very interesting and innovative. Overall, it provides great enjoyment and keeps the watcher very involved and very attentive to the story and plot-line. All of the acting is very well-done, and if you're a fan of David Tennant, he is wonderful, and this would be a lovely addition to your film collection.
