Leo Brennan, the father of Enya, Moya Brennan and Clannad, was laid to rest in Gaoth Dobhair, Co Donegal on Friday.

Tributes have been paid to the renowned entertainer and owner of famous west Donegal pub Leo's Tavern since his death on Wednesday at the age of 90.

In his homily, parish priest Pádraig Ó Baoighill paid tribute to Leo's devotion to his church and his gift to the local area and people through his music and kindness.

He remarked that Leo brought thousands of tourists to entertain in his pub before there was any word about the Wild Atlantic Way. "Or any other way," he added.

After a career with the Slieve Foy Showband Leo, along with his wife Máire, or 'Baba', bought the pub in Mín na Leice in west Donegal in 1968.

Fr Ó Baoighill said it was for Leo's genuine nature, his patience and his decency that he will be remembered by many people.

A local choir, regularly led by Leo, provided the music for the requiem mass, as well as by members of his family, Clannad and harpist Cormac Breathnach.

There were tearful moments as a recording of Leo himself singing Danny Boy was played, with the congregation paying their final respects with a rendition of one of his many favourites, The Homes of Donegal.

Leo Brennan was then brought to his final resting place in the local cemetery in Machaire Gathlán. He is survived by his wife Máire 'Baba' Brennan and their children Moya, Ciarán, Pól, Deirdre, Leon, Enya, Olive, Bartley and Brídín.
