Cedarcrest sophomore Aaron Davenport, a standout pitcher on the Red Wolves’ baseball team that finished second at the 2A state tournament in May, has been selected to the WIAA’s LEAP Class of 2018 Committee.
The student selected to LEAP, which stands for Leadership through Education Activities and Personal Development, completed a thorough application process which included an online application, a short essay explaining why athletics and activities are so important, a three letters of recommendation and a video personal statement about their school and why the should be selected. There were a record number of applicants this year with over 110 submissions.
The new committee members will serve a two-year term, joining eight seniors who just finished their first term during the 2015-16 school year.
“The WIAA LEAP Committee has become a priority of the Association to make sure the voice of the students is heard,” WIAA Executive Director Mike Colbrese said.
The LEAP Committee is scheduled to meet five times during the upcoming school year. Meeting consist of guest speakers, leadership exercises, peer discussions and group projects.
Davenport joins South Whidbey’s Megan Drake and Everett’s Michael Larson, who are both part of the LEAP Class of 2017.
