Watch: Melissa McCarthy Sounds Off on "Gilmore Girls" Revival

We read the rumors, we heard the confirmation and we finally saw the photographic proof that Melissa McCarthy did indeed strap a bandana on once again to play Sookie St. James on Gilmore Girls. Now, the Ghostbusters star is shedding more light on her return to Stars Hollow for Netflix's Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life.

"Oh, it was a bloodbath," McCarthy joked with E! News' Erin Lim about her big Gilmore reunion. "No, it was so fun. I get so sentimental to be back on those sets and to see everybody. It was amazing how we just all fell back into it."

McCarthy, who was at Elle's Women in Comedy event with her Ghostbusters costars, said she thinks the four 90-minute movies are going to be great. "I had such a good time going back," she told us.

McCarthy's return to series that helped launch her career came after weeks of public back and forth. Creator Amy Sherman-Palladino said McCarthy was too busy, to which McCarthy replied that she wasn't even asked to return.

"I didn't actually get asked to do it. But I think they thought I was busy, and then by the time it did come up, then I actually was," McCarthy told E! News' Marc Malkin in March. "I'm actually thrilled that it's happening. I loved that show, and I think the fans for that show are super loyal and great and I will watch every single one of them…I want to cook again. I want to put salt and then stir," she jokes. "That was seven years of my life and it was really great. I was proud of that show."

And she got her wish. McCarthy announced her return during an April visit to The Ellen DeGeneres Show. "There has been something that I have been asked about so, so many times and it hasn't worked out and there is… they're making four new movies of the Gilmore Girls which is a show which was near and dear to my heart...and we could not get those schedules to work. And there was a whole thing. And then I was gonna be out of the country and blah, blah, blah. And literally about an hour and half ago we figured out that I'm gonna go back and do it and I am so excited. And they are gonna be amazing," McCarthy told Ellen DeGeneres.

No premiere date for Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life has been announced.
