YAKIMA — Cedarcrest took an early advantage in the 2A state baseball championship game on Saturday, but couldn’t prevent an avalanche of Selah offense in a five-inning 14-3 loss.
The Red Wolves finish their season with a record of 17-10, and were searching for their first state championship since 2009, when they also defeated Selah.
Instead it ws the Vikings (25-1) who claimed their first-ever state crown after falling at this stage in 2015.
Cedarcrest scored three runs in the top of the first inning of Selah starter Dustin Yates, but the Vikings immediately answered, scoring four in the bottom of the frame.
It was a lead they would never relinquish.
Selah added four more runs in the third inning and six in the fourth as Yates settled into the game.
He struck out the side in the fourth and kept the Red Wolves off the board in the fifth to close out the shortened victory.
