HIGHLAND >> The stepson of a man found stabbed in his vehicle at a Highland apartment complex just before midnight Monday, was arrested Tuesday on suspicion of killing him.

The stabbing was reported at Parc Mountain View apartments on East Base Line just west of McKinley Avenue in Highland.

The victim, 58-year-old Juan Anthony Carreno, was taken to Loma Linda University Medical Center but was pronounced dead less than an hour later.

Later Tuesday, San Bernardino County sheriff’s deputies identified Gabriel Alfred Lizarraga, the victim’s 27-year-old stepson, as the suspect, sheriff’s officials said in a news release.

Lizarraga was arrested and taken to the Central Detention Center on suspicion of murder, jail records show. He is being held without bail.

The complex where Carreno was found was also where a couple was shot April 16. Kirk Savala, 52, was killed, and his wife, Donna Savala, 50, survived.
