Watsonville native and Denver Broncos offensive lineman Ty Sambrailo participated in position drills during organized team activities on Tuesday at the UCHealth Training Facility in Dove Valley, Colo., according to the team’s website.
Sambrailo, a St. Francis High alum, was working at the guard position when on the field. He is expected to participate in everything but the 11-on-11 period this week.
Sambrailo went on season-ending injured reserve in November to undergo surgery on his torn labrum.
“I think if we lined up today with our perfect five, the way we think, then Ty would go inside,” coach Gary Kubiak said, according to DenverBroncos.com. “But we are unhealthy at some spots. We’ll probably work him at both [guard and tackle] once we turn him loose to go with the team.”

Bombshells win 3 at tourney >> The Boardwalk Bombshells, the Santa Cruz Derby Girls’ all-star team, hosted their first Women’s Flat Track Derby Association-sanctioned tournament over the weekend and earned a sweep.
The Bombshells wrapped up the three-team Boardwalk Empire Tournament held at their practice facility in Scotts Valley on Sunday with a 282-80 triumph against the Sac City Rollers. In that bout, the Bombshells’ defense managed to keep Sac City scoreless during the final 15 minutes of the game while racking up 82 points of their own.
On Saturday, the Bombshells, who are currently ranked No. 33 in the WFTDA, defeated the Kansas City Roller Warriors, 202-89. Between the tournament matches, Santa Cruz took down Bay Area Derby’s Richmond Wrecking Belles in a bout at the Civic Auditorium on Saturday night.
In other tournament action, Kansas City and Sac City split their matches, with Kansas City recording a 169-137 win and Sac City winning 253-156.
These were the final games for the Bombshells before playoff seedings are announced.
“We played solid defense all weekend and our offense is making a big difference,” Kosher Assault (aka Rachel Scott) said in a press release. “We’ve tightened up so much over the past 12 months, helping us climb the WFTDA rankings. We’re really looking forward to the playoff announcement in July.”
The next Derby Girls bout will feature Santa Cruz’s home teams, the undefeated Redwood Rebels and the Organic Panic, on June 11 at the Civic. Tickets are at santacruztickets.com
