Richard Wysocki of Fort Mill, S.C., birdied the final three holes to win the Open division at the 31st annual “Steady” Ed Memorial Masters Cup at DeLaveaga Golf Course on Sunday.
Wysocki posted 10 birdies in the final round for a closing 51 and 25-under-par 178 total.
Paul McBeth of Huntington Beach took second at 179 after firing 53 in the final round.
Gregg Barsby of Grass Valley was third at 187. Eagle Wynne McMahon of Boulder, Colo, was fourth at 191 and San Luis Obispo’s Peter McBride (192) took fifth.
Capitola native Nathan Doss, a Soquel High alum who lives in Bend, Ore., tied for 13th with a 6-under-par 197 total. Aptos’ Dylan Evans was the closest local at 10-over-par 213.
Catrina Allen of Madison, Tenn., was a runaway winner in the Women’s Open division. She closed with 58 for a 7-over 210 total. Paige Pierce of Plano, Texas, was second at 222 and Valarie Jenkins of Bend, Ore., was third at 224.
Robert Jerez of Newcastle shot 57 in the third round for a 5-under 198 total and one-stroke victory over Scotts Valley’s Jonathan Baldwin in the Masters division. San Francisco’s Patrick Brown was third at 200.
Fremont’s Doug Werner won the Grandmasters division with a 207 total, edging Fair Oaks’ Jim Oates and Grass Valley’s Mike Loya at 208.
San Mateo’s Hunt Hyde won the Senior Grandmasters division with a 221 total. Grass Valley’s Richard Brumbeloe (223) took second and Aptos’ Merle Witvoet (224) was third.
Running
Surfer’s Path Marathon, Capitola Half Marathon >> John Harrington of Belmont (2 hours, 51 minutes and 51 seconds) was the top men’s finisher in the Surfer’s Path Marathon and was followed by Waconia’s Bob Wolter (2:54:24) and Monterey’s Josh Collins (3:01:42).
Steve Croft of Scotts Valley was fifth overall in 3:01:44.
Tiburon’s Tyler Stewart (2:55:53) was the top female finisher and third overall in the marathon and was followed by Stanford’s Claire Howlett (3:07:35) and San Mateo’s Sharyn Boissevain Chen (3:15:04) in the women’s division.
Alexandra Hughes of Santa Cruz (3:35:37) finished 10th among all the women.
San Carlos’s Benjamin Heck (1:13:01) was the top finisher among men in the Capitola Half Marathon. Kerry Crowley of Phoenix (1:20:46) was second and Mount Hermon’s Nick Sherrell (1:21:14) was third.
Jennifer Berry of Denver (1:23:04) was the fastest female in the half marathon and followed by San Jose’s Merlin Vassigh (1:31:11) and San Francisco’s Rachel Hall (1:32:04).
Soquel’s Kathy Wiles (1:33:22) was the top local female in the half marathon.
Beach volleyball
Peruzzi, Busenhart qualify for nationals >> Luca Peruzzi and Brigg Busenhart, both whom play for Mount Madonna School and Main Beach Volleyball Club, took second place in the USAV Hermosa Beach Open in the U16 division on Saturday, which earned them a bid to play in the 2016 USAV Junior Beach Tour National Championships in Milwaukee on July 22-24.
