Dates of Presidential Primaries: how much do states get to influence the candidate pool?

I put together this map to highlight primary dates on a diverging scale - source data is from the 2016 republican and democratic primary pages on Wikipedia. The theory is that as primaries progress, the original candidate pool is determined more by earlier voting states and candidates are given momentum by the people and media over time which impacts the viability and influences the opinions of later states.
