The Oregon Ducks Baseball team faced Washington State over the weekend. The Cougars are at the bottom of the Pac-12 Conference Standings, but on Friday night Matt Krook did not have his best, giving up four runs with no run support as Oregon fell 4-0 and were shutout. Saturday with Cole Irvin on the mound was a different story. Irvin turned the table on Washington State for a complete game shutout and had control from the start.

Irvin reset his own strikeout record in the process, now at 14. He was dealing. He scattered six hits through nine innings. Irvin had not thrown a complete game shutout since 2014. It was also the last shutout thrown by an Oregon Duck Pitcher. Cole Irvin blanked Ohio State on May 11th 2014 according to GoDucks.com. Irvin would have a little help from his friends on Saturday.

The Oregon Ducks had 11 hits and 8 runs. As Oregon Head Coach George Horton has said this season, hitting is contagious and it rolled into Sunday and the series finale. Starter David Peterson struggled against the Cougars giving up 5 earned runs, but the Oregon bullpen and the Oregon Offense woke up in a big way to mount a comeback that won the series and boosted their chances at the post season.

Oregon scored six runs off five hits in the bottom of the 8th for an 11-7 win. Kyle Kasser led the charge with an RBI double. Stephen Nagosek earned the win throwing in the ninth and lowering his ERA this season to 1.01. The Oregon Ducks are 9-9 in the Pac-12 and are two games out of first place in the Conference.
