Philadelphia Eagles Draft Joe Walker, Sign Free Agent Byron Marshall

Linebacker Joe Walker and Running Back/Wide Receiver Byron Marshall have a new home in the NFL with the Philadelphia Eagles.

The NFL Draft concluded on Saturday and just two Oregon Ducks were chosen. Defensive End DeForest Buckner was taken on Friday. It took until the final ten selections before Joe Walker was selected by the Philadelphia Eagles with the 251st Selection of the 7th Round.

Several former Oregon players will still look to Free Agency to make an NFL Roster including Vernon Adams, Jr who let it be known that he can play with anyone and should have been given a chance over the last two days. His words fell on deaf ears as he will have to take the Free Agency route to find a team that will give him a chance in the National Football League.

For Walker, it was his work ethic that stood out His pro day was solid according to his NFL.com Draft Profile which had some teams rethinking on the Linebacker. Philadelphia made the call on Saturday.

Another former Oregon Ducks Player Byron Marshall was not called over the weekend. Marshall played two big roles on the Oregon Offense as a Wide Receiver and Running Back. Marshall signed a Free Agent contract with Philadelphia an hour after the NFL Draft concluded. The Oregon-Philadelphia connection was strong when Chip Kelly was Head Coach and it appears to continue in the Doug Peterson era.

Some additional Free Agent Signings were also announced on Saturday with Tyler Johnstone signed by the San Diego Chargers. Tyson Coleman signed with Tampa Bay and Christian French landed with the Seattle Seahawks

I expect that Vernon Adams will land with an NFL team and at least have an opportunity. It would be unfortunate if someone didn’t at least give his level of talent a chance to succeed at the next level.
