TV producer Ross Jennings dies

The man behind some of New Zealand's most successful television programmes has died after a battle with cancer. He was 71.

Ross Jennings created New Zealand's first reality series Middlemore and Police Ten-7.

He had been executive producer of Maori Television's Anzac Day coverage since 2009.

Mr Jennings was born in Hawera in 1944 and died peacefully on Friday night, his family said.

Entertainer and friend Gray Bartlett says a highlight of his career was working with Mr Jennings at Pacific Entertainment as well as on the Billy Connolly Down Under series.

Bartlett said Mr Jennings was a great optimist and a wonderful man.

Mr Jennings was in the middle of making a reality series about a couple of politicians, which is due to screen on Maori Television later this year.
