It's finally happened. Final Fantasy Adventure has been reborn as Adventures of Mana. We first covered the game last month, but Square Enix Europe took to their blog today to talk about the remake of the original Mana title. North American fans know it as the Game Boy classic Final Fantasy Adventure European gamers may recognize the game under the name Mystic Quest, not to be confused with Final Fantasy Mystic Quest. If neither of those names ring a bell, Adventures of Mana took the name Sword of Mana when it was remade for the Gameboy Advance. It's now been remade yet again for mobile devices, but Square Enix is also considering a Vita release.
A PlayStation Vita version has been widely requested by fans, so Square Enix is looking into whether they can make that happen. There's no guarantee Adventures of Mana will find its way to the Sony handheld, but the team's giving the idea some serious consideration. For now, the game is still available for iOS and Android devices. The mobile release takes everything you knew about the original title and makes it even better. The graphics are vastly improved, showing things that were impossible to show in the original Game Boy release. The soundtrack has also seen vast improvements as the score has been completely rearranged by the game's original composer, Kenji Ito.
For the Mana fans out there, Adventures of Mana is avialable now on both the Google Play store and the App Store for $13.99. If a PlayStation Vita release becomes a reality, we'll have news on that front as it becomes available. If Square's plans for a Vita version fall through, nearly everyone has either an Android or iOS capable device.
Make a game for a handheld that's sold 4m? Or make a game for a handheld that's sold 50m?
Anyway... if they're going down the line of Mana series remakes, can we get Secret of Mana and Seiken Densetsu 3 please? SD3 never got an official western release and the fan translation rom doesn't play brilliantly IMO.
And unlike some people, I don't write games off simply because they're on a mobile platform.
