Orange Is The New Black has been renewed for three more seasons, Netflix announced today. Co-producer Lionsgate made the announcement too on its earnings call this morning. That brings the series to seven seasons; Season 4 returns June 17. As part of the deal, creator/executive producer/showrunner Jenji Kohan committed to return for the next three seasons.
Said Kohan in the announcement: “Three more years! Not quite a political term, but still plenty of time to do some interesting things.”
The series won Best Comedy Series at the SAG Awards last week for a second year in a row, and Uzo Aduba — aka Crazy Eyes — made it back-to-back wins for comedy supporting. It has been nominated for Best Comedy and Best Drama series at the Primetime Emmys.
