With a fair amount of staff turnover on both offense and defense, it would've been understandable if Arizona State had a less than fulfilling signing day. But the Sun Devils were able to hang on to a recruiting class ranked No. 25 in the country, the same ranking they had back in early December before the coaching shifts began.

"It doesn’t help to lose coaches," Arizona State coach Todd Graham told Jeff Metcalfe. "It speaks volumes about where the program is to hang on to these guys. We could have easily been top-15 if we didn't have that, but that's part of it. You want promotions for your coaches. It's partly my job to help them. This class is a great testimony to the stability and foundation we've laid here."

Perhaps most impressive was that they were able to keep N'keal Harry, the No. 1 wide receiver in the 2016 class despite losing offensive coordinator Mike Norvell. Said Graham, "I can't tell you how excited I am about this guy," and for good reason. Harry had offers from nearly every Pac-12 school plus Wisconsin, Texas and Texas A&M, but the local product decided to stay close to home.

The other three position coaches the Sun Devils lost were tight end coach Chip Long, safeties coach Chris Ball and defensive line coach Jackie Shipp. Arizona State still signed three players at those positions: tight end Jared Bubak, and junior college defensive linemen Dougladson Subtyl and Christian Hill. Harry, Subtyl and Hill are the top three signees in the class.

There weren't any big surprises on Wednesday for the Sun Devils but, as Metcalfe wrote, that might be the best surprise Arizona State could've asked for.
